Coaching Philosophy

Posted by John Shetromph on Jul 09 2017 at 05:00PM PDT

As a coaching staff, we are united in the belief that Middle School Soccer is primarily for soccer development.  We will strive to win (otherwise why play?), but our purpose will be to expand knowledge and skills in preparing for HS ball and beyond.  We will be challenging players during training to expand individual skill and game knowledge. Our practices will have a technical and tactical theme each day..... often playing in smaller groups while learning larger team concepts.

Practices will involve the 4 components of the game..... technical, tactical, physical, and psycholocial.  The practices will be designed to create a more confident and smarter player.  Often practices will be at game speed to mimic the game as much as possible. Individual skills are learned in practice but those skills are mastered by working with the ball in the backyard.

Ball touch will be emphasised as "good touch" is the foundation of all other components.  Total team integration of players is of utmost importance.  Our mission is to create "complete" players that are willing to take soccer risks for the benefit of rewards.

Winning is not the primary emphasis, but striving to win is important in the purposes of shaping player and team fundamentals.  We very much hope that the player experience is fun and enjoyable while being challenged.  But also remember that if we are to make gains in our skills, work is envolved.  Not every day has rainbows and butterflies.

This may be your daughter's first experience of playing for the school; having a practice/game every day may pose tired legs and minds.  They will grow during this period..... mentally and physically.
